“We will direct all forces to build justice and a legal state, to provide conditions for quality of life for all citizens in Macedonia, with mutual understanding, towards respecting the multiethnicity in the country and the Framework Agreement. With this we will be opening the real perspectives of the citizens and of contemporary, modern and Euro-Atlantic Macedonia”, stated designate and leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev, after President Gjorge Ivanov today, two days before the deadline, awarded him the mandate.
In the short statement for the media, after the mandate was awarded, Ivanov stated that the obstacles for forming a new government had been removed and that is why he is awarding the mandate to Zaev, who provided the necessary parliamentary majority, according to which he is designated to form a new government.
“Today we set forwards towards fulfilling Article 84, item 1 of the Constitution of Republic of Macedonia for determining the mandate holder to form the Government of Republic of Macedonia”, said Ivanov.

After receiving the mandate, Zaev stated they would organize themselves together with the parties that gave their signatures for forming the majority, to shorten the deadline of 20 days that is anticipated for forming a government and that they would try to do it in less than 10 days.
“I commit to working with all of you, and the new government will be a government of the citizens. This day is a new beginning for Macedonia. We will direct all forces to build justice and a legal state, to provide conditions for quality of life for all citizens in Macedonia, with mutual understanding, towards respecting the multiethnicity in the country and the Framework Agreement. With this we will be opening the real perspectives of the citizens and of contemporary, modern and Euro-Atlantic Macedonia”, stated Zaev.
“No document, platform, declaration, act or action, contrary to the above-mentioned positions, can serve as a condition or basis for forming the Government of Republic of Macedonia and its action”, is stated in the written statement, signed by Zaev, which was handed to President Ivanov today.
Zaev reminded that precisely two years ago this day, a message was sent from civil Macedonia in that the citizens are prepared to work together on democratic values, and on solutions that unite them, and not ones that divide them.
“The voice of a united, colorful Macedonia is the voice of a unified Macedonia”, concluded Zaev.
The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, and European Commissioner Johannes Hahn welcomed Ivanov’s decision for awarding Zoran Zaev the mandate to form a government.
“This is what the people want and deserve. We are ready to support the new government in its reform efforts”, is stated in the statement of Hahn and Mogherini.
