Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi announced Tuesday that the first plenary Q&A session will take place tomorrow after the Zoran Zaev-led government marked its first 100 days in office.
Speaking at today’s press briefing, Xhaferi said the session will follow the regular practice established for Q&A sessions with MPs of the opposition parties VMRO-DPMNE, Alliance for Albanians and Levica allowed to start first. Every third question at the session, scheduled at 11 am, will be posed by the MPs of the SDSM-DUI ruling majority.
Taking stock of the work of Parliament amid unprecedented circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Speaker said the legislative house despite the hurdles had been functional throughout the year managing to conduct key activities.
The new situation, according to Xhaferi, proved challenging for the media while covering parliamentary activities as a result of the anti-coronavirus measures in place. He said he hoped the matter would be resolved in 2021 after the number of infections dropped and with the arrival of the first batches of the coronavirus vaccine in early 2021. Xhaferi also announced the Parliament’s website would be upgraded and improved for streaming sessions of the committees with funds from a project with Switzerland.
Regarding the census law, the Speaker said the legislation met the conditions necessary for the statistical operation to be administered. According to him, it depends on the MPs whether they will file amendments. The census law is included on the agenda of a Jan. 18 session.
Parliament will be in recess for the holidays until Jan. 11, 2021 with sessions that haven’t been concluded. A new session is due on Jan. 18, 2021.
