Justice Minister Bojan Marichikj held an online meeting on Friday with European Commissioner for Values and Transparency, Věra Jourová, and discussed key judicial reforms.
The Minister presented at the meeting implemented and upcoming reforms in the judiciary sector and expressed hopes that North Macedonia’s EU negotiating framework will be adopted in the next few days in order to hold the first intergovernmental conference in December and officially launch accession talks.
Marichikj, the Justice Ministry said in a press release, also stressed constant communication with relevant stakeholders with the aim of defining priorities of key judicial reforms.
Moreover, the Minister underlined the importance of EU’s engagement in the process, which lends added value and credibility to reforms.
Due to the pandemic, Marichikj noted, there’s a need for digitalization of court and prosecution activities. EU’s support in this regard will strengthen the efficiency of judicial processes.
EU Commissioner Jourová said at the meeting that the European Commission is ready to offer assistance in projects aiming to improve the transparency and efficiency of the justice system.
She also expressed hopes for visiting North Macedonia and meeting with Minister Marichikj in person once the pandemic is over, in order to expedite cooperation in the judiciary sector.
