Davos

Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, accompanied by Koco Angjusev and by Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi, today met with the Commissioner for EU Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, and with NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

At the meeting it was concluded that the implementation of the historic Prespa Agreement is being conducted according to the planned, and that now is the time for all the efforts of the political processes in Republic of Macedonia to focus on an emphasized implementation of the reforms, in order to enable a start of the EU membership negotiations.

Stabilization of the pensions?

The pensions are stable say the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. They add that the pensions will be adjusted two times a year, and 100% with the rise of the cost of living, instead of 50% as it was previously. A legal provision has been introduced with which there will be additional adjusting of the pensions as of April 1, if the gross domestic product in the previous year had a real increase of over 4%.

In addition, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy say that this Government has provided stable payment and continuous rise of pensions in the past two years, and that the statistical parameters that show the evident increase of pensions in Macedonia are confirmation for this.

Threats to the SPO

The judge in the “Titanic 3” case postponed today’s hearing for February 22, with the purpose of providing one of the key witnesses in the procedure, proposed by the SPO. The “Titanic 3” case is in regards to the destroying of election material in the Municipality of Cair in 2013, while Ejup Alimi and Ismet Guri from DUI are accused.

In an argument between the defense and the SPO prosecutors about providing one of the key witnesses in the case, Fatime Fetai revealed that threats had been made against her colleague Gavril Bubevski.

Bulgarian citizenship

Bulgaria plans to cancel the law that enables “buying” Bulgarian citizenship by investing in the country, announced the Bulgarian Ministry of Justice, pointing out that this law has not brought significant economic benefits for the country.

These legal changes come after the report of the European Commission, in which Bulgaria is warned that this law enables foreign organized crime groups to infiltrate in the European Union and increase the risk of money laundering, corruption and tax evasion.

Uncertainty in Greece

If nothing unforeseen is to happen, then today or during the night the voting in the Greek Parliament is to take place on the ratification of the Prespa Agreement. At the same time, in the afternoon protests are to start in the center of Athens. One by the so-called “Committee fighting for the Greek character of Macedonia”, an organization that is behind the protests against the Prespa Agreement, and another by the Communist Party of Greece.

International Day of Education

Today the first International Day of Education is celebrated. On that occasion, UNESCO has called all governments and all partners to make universal quality education a leading priority. The United Nations General Assembly on December 3, 2018, with a consensus adopted the resolution for declaring January 24 as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.

These days, when the air pollution in Skopje is exceeding world records, despite official information that this plant is not operating for years, there are still some activities there.
