NEWS OF THE DAY: Geer: EU regulation that will come into effect in August, bans sharing of religious and ethnic affiliation
EU Ambassador David Geer, in relation to whether the law on ID cards and inclusion of ethnic affiliation is in accordance to the European regulations, said that the main EU regulation regarding this issue is the regulation on protection of personal data, which bans sharing of personal data such as racial and ethnic affiliation, and political and religious affiliation as well.
-In the European Union, ID cards are still regulated by the member states, but the regulation that I mentioned, which contains the first rules related to these documents at the level of the Union, will come into effect in August 2021, said Geer at a joint press conference with Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi, on the occasion of our country’s CEFTA chairmanship.
The EU Ambassador added that harmonizing the legislation of our country with EU’s rules and standards is an important process and that the EU has always encouraged North Macedonia to achieve progress in this area because, as he pointed out, this is one of the first things that would be assessed at the start of the negotiations.

Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, together with the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Petre Shilegov, welcomed the start of the works for reconstruction of part of the Quay “13 November” along the Vardar River, extending from the Sloboda Bridge next to Holiday Inn, to the Stone Bridge. Shilegov added that illegal parking in this area will be completely prevented additionally by seriously limiting the flow of vehicles that will be able to use the service street only in a strictly determined time.
