CIVIL – Center for Freedom, at the second anniversary of the May 5th protests and of the brutal confrontation of the police with the non-violent protestors, is reminding the public that those responsible for the serious crisis, crime and trampling of human rights, remain free and continue to destabilize Republic of Macedonia.
The monstrosity for which we learned from the wiretapped materials on the concealing of the brutal murder of Martin Neskovski in 2011, sparked spontaneous and non-violent protests on May 5, 2015. Thousands of citizens took the streets to express their revolt, demanding justice and calling for resignations and responsibility from the then Minister Jankulovska, former Prime Minister Gruevski, and from former Director of the Administration for Security and Counterintelligence, who was also suspected in several investigations of the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
The police was then defending brutality with brutality. The special police forces were beating at the protest without any mercy, but after they broke up the protests, they started a furious chase after all those who were on the streets during those hours. They beat and arrested people who were far from the place where the protests took place. In their night disciplinary expedition , the special forces even came to the library “Braka Miladinovci” and there they attacked the students who were reading and preparing for exams.
The police did not pay any attention to the identity cards, and even less to the fact that the protesters were non-violent. Many activists, journalists, as well as CIVIL’s observers were injured that night. The authorities harassed the arrested and persecuted them for months afterwards, in staged court trials, accompanied with a dirty media propaganda that lasts until today.
May this day be remembered as a significant date in the fight for democracy, justice and freedom. The struggle continues!
