March 13: Social pension, detention, SPO, agreements…

Pension for those who do not have qualifying years of work

Persons older than 65 years, who have not worked for a single day, will be able to receive pension starting from this year. This is anticipated with the new Draft Law on social security of the elderly people, which is already in Parliament. Voting is planned in shortened procedure, while payment of pensions will be made in the centers for social work. The amount of the social pension is planned to be 6000 denars and will be adjusted once a year with the cost of living.

Zbogar: I expect Macedonia to receive a date for negotiations with the EU

The Head of the Delegation of the European Union, Samuel Zbogar, during today’s visit in Strumica within the framework of the campaign “EU for YOU”, said that he hopes that in June the member countries will adopt a positive report for North Macedonia to receive negotiations with the EU.

“Now we need to see the reforms, which we are following and in June an assessment will be made, and I hope that after that the negotiations will start, because precisely these negotiations will bring the change that not only the young people want to see, but also the citizens of the country”, added Ambassador Zbogar.

Cavkov is detained in order not to escape from the country

The head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption, Vilma Ruskoska, says that she requested detention for Mitko Cavkov based on operational information received from the MOI and that there is no reason to doubt the information of the police that he could escape.

The former director of the Public Security Bureau, Mitko Cavkov, yesterday ended in the investigative prison in Shuto Orizari, after the court ordered a new 30-day detention. The decision for detention is based on an official note from information received from a friend of his, who had said that Cavkov has a villa on Halkidiki where he planned to escape before the judgement for April 27 was pronounced.

What is the fate of the SPO?

At the leadership meeting, Mickovski and Zaev agreed that working groups would be formed from March 11 working intensively on the Draft Law on the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In addition to knowing that SDSM’s working group would be led by Minister of Justice Renata Deskoska, VMRO-DPMNE is yet to nominate members. The news that DUI insists on a change in the SPO team is false, says the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs, Bujar Osmani.

The Alliance for the Albanians will not give support, because according to them all this is a political game, and support will also be lacking from the Movement Besa. There is still no information on the decision of the independent group of VMRO-DPMNE and of DPA.

Civil society organizations request draft law on the SPO to be withdrawn

Civil society organizations that are part of the “Blueprint” group that are focused on monitoring the judicial reforms and advocating for their implementation, do not agree with the manner in which the adoption of the amendments to the Law on Public Prosecutor’s Office is carried out.

The amendments to the Law on Public Prosecutor’s Office regulate the further existence, the functioning and competencies of the existing SPO, without having analyzed significant problems related to its work, which have been known almost from the very beginning of the work of the prosecutor’s office, and recent recommendations of civil society organizations and experts have also not been considered. That is why we demand the amendments of the law to be further worked on, with a focus of the provisions that refer to the further status and work of the SPO”.
