President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed that Ukrainians will give it their all in the fight against the invasion of their country, MIA informs.
“You will not have peace here, you will not have food here, you will not have a quiet moment here,” the 44-year-old said in a video message released early Thursday.
Zelensky said the occupiers would only get one thing from the Ukrainians: “Resistance so fierce that they will forever remember that we will not give up what is ours.” Since the Russian invasion a week ago, Ukraine had thwarted plans which the “enemy” had been preparing for years, Zelensky said.
He said nearly 9,000 Russians have been killed. The Ukrainian defense ministry had previously reported that more than 5,840 Russian soldiers had been killed since the war began. The Russian defense ministry disagreed, claiming that 498 Russian soldiers have been killed so far.
These were the first official numbers from Russia since the beginning of the war. The information is not independently verifiable.
Zelensky said the morale of the Russian army was deteriorating, adding that Russian soldiers were being taken prisoner every day.
“And they only say one thing. They don’t know why they’re here.”
