“The visit of Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna to Ukraine is another manifestation of support for our state. We rely on France’s leadership in our fight against the Russian aggressor and in defending European values. For Ukraine’s victory, it is important to help with weapons, strengthen sanctions and bring our country closer to EU membership,” President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on Telegram following a meeting with French Foreign Affairs Minister Catherine Colonna.
As the press service of the Head of State informs, the parties paid special attention to the issue of unblocking Ukrainian ports in order to prevent the global food crisis. In this context, Zelensky called on French partners not to give in to the aggressor’s blackmail and pressure to mitigate the sanctions against Moscow.
Moreover, the need to introduce the EU’s next, sixth package of sanctions against Russia as soon as possible was underscored during the meeting.
The President noted that Ukraine counted on the support of France for the decision of the European Union leaders to grant our country the status of a candidate for EU membership in June.
“We have repeatedly heard that friendly France sees Ukraine in the European Union,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.
The President stressed that Ukraine also counted on France’s active participation in the post-war reconstruction process, and thanked for the financial support and assistance in the treatment of wounded Ukrainian service members.
“I want to thank you, France, and President Emmanuel Macron for supporting Ukraine, for the constant support for our territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Zelensky said.
As reported, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna is on her first visit to Ukraine on May 30. She visited Bucha in Kyiv region and met with Ukraine’s FM Dmytro Kuleba.
