Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says progress is being made in the country’s efforts to secure international security guarantees, transmits MIA.
“We are negotiating with the world’s leading nations to give Ukraine confidence in security for decades to come,” Zelensky said in his daily video address on Wednesday evening. This was among the topics discussed at the G7 meeting on Sunday, in which Ukraine took part for the first time.
“This is the first time in the history of our state when it is possible to fix such guarantees. Not something in the memorandum, not some declarative desire for some kind of course, but specific guarantees,” Zelensky said.
These would be “not only legally significant, but also spelled out so that it is clear: what exactly, who exactly and how exactly guarantees us,” Zelensky added.
One of Russia’s demands to end the armed hostilities is a clear commitment by Ukraine to political neutrality, for which the country is seeking strong international security guarantees.
