Zoran Zaev received the 2020 Human Rights Award from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, as they themselves said because of Zaev’s resolute course of reforms, he eventually led EU member states to start accession talks between the EU and Northern Macedonia in March, and the country managed to join NATO as the 30th member.
“I feel noble and grateful, but at the same time modestly receiving today’s prestigious award of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. A foundation that has hundreds of years of experience, especially in the field of promoting freedom, equality and solidarity. These are democratic values that have built and continue to build the benefits of civilization, juice, global prosperity, sustainability, security, transparency and uncompromising struggle against every single stump of authoritarianism. It encourages the expression of free will and building a society for all whether we speak locally or globally. This award, created at the initiative of the highly respected Carl and Ida Fest and inspired by their long struggle and support for workers’ rights and their movement, is complementary to my personal philosophy of life for all, equality for all, dialogue above all, conflict never “, said Zaev after receiving the award.
