The Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in yesterday’s interview for Sitel Television, stressed that he is optimistic about resolving the issue with Bulgaria.
Zaev, like his Bulgarian counterpart Bosrisov, after yesterday’s meetings Zaharieva-Dimitrov-Osmani, is optimistic that the differences with Sofia will be overcome before the intergovernmental conference for EU negotiations. He added that the German assistance is also welcome. The frequent communications between the working groups and ministers of both sides have given results.
He says that we must not leave any issue that we can solve today for tomorrow, and we do have a solution today. And that being to continue with the bilateral agreement, that is, that for Bulgaria the Macedonian language is according to the Constitution, and for us the Bulgarian language is according to the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria. The European Union has already recognized the Macedonian language. Bulgaria recognizes the reality, the existence of the Macedonian people and language, and now the history is being discussed. In general, history should not be solved by politicians. There are historians, and through the committees they should find a solution. We encourage them, and we want them to find a solution.
The Prime Minister acknowledges stagnation only in the part of the railway to Bulgaria, which, on the other hand, is part of the Agreement of Good-neighborliness. Zaev also announced that the Macedonian-Bulgarian relations will also be a topic of discussion in the telephone conversation he will have tomorrow with German Chancellor Merkel.
