The program part of the possible future cooperation of Alternative in the Government was agreed in principle at yesterday’s meeting between Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and the leader of Alternative, Afrim Gashi, while consultations on personnel decisions are ongoing and after consultations in the parties will follow a new working meeting with teams.
The conclusions of the four-hour meeting between Zaev and Gashi yesterday in the Parliamentary Club in Skopje were informed through a statement from the Press Service of the Government, after Zaev said only briefly that they had a “constructive meeting”.
– The interlocutors agree that the reform and European course for which the citizens and the state are determined must continue and that in these moments the most important is the stability of the state institutions that serve the citizens. Talks on taking and sharing responsibilities in the interest of the citizens and the state began, exchanging views on possible personnel decisions to be taken on potential obligations and responsibilities, ie the relevant positions, ministers, deputy ministers and other officials within the central government. , reads the statement of the government press service after the meeting.
Prime Minister Zaev was accompanied by Kovacevski at the meeting with Gashi, and the leader of Alternativa was accompanied by party Secretary General Bekim Sali. This was their second meeting, after discussing the conditions and the role of Alterantiva in the new parliamentary majority on the 19th of this month, and the final decision was left to the party authorities.
The Central Presidency of Alternative on Friday authorized Gashi to start talks with all political actors, the Prime Minister and the possible new prime minister to see what is their concept for overcoming the political crisis, while at the session of the Central Board of SDSM, which was held Also Friday, Zaev’s resignation from the party’s leadership position was confirmed, but he was given the legitimacy to lead the negotiations for a parliamentary majority.
Alternative President Afrim Gashi before yesterday’s meeting, said that the party’s commitment is to give a chance to get out of the political crisis, as well as the energy and health crisis and, as he said, to help the country not to lose the historic chance to start EU membership negotiations.
– We will see what is the concept of the Prime Minister and his current partners and what they expect from our contribution to the future government. “If we manage to build a new concept, bigger changes, I think Alternative is ready to help,” Gashi said.
Answering a journalist question how many ministerial posts his party expects, the president of Alternative pointed out that for the party it has never been essential and that it is important for her to discuss the political criteria.
“This is a second part that is secondary for us and much less important than the first, which is normative, about the concept that we will build together and whether we will be able to remove those obstacles in the functioning of the Government so far,” Gashi said.
He says that the party remains of the opinion that it is in the interest of all citizens not to have quick elections.
The Secretary General of the Alliance for Albanians and Mayor of Gostivar, Arben Taravari, believes that if Alternative comes to accept to join the new government, it will not last long and that next 2022 will be an election year.
Taravari after yesterday’s meeting with the OSCE Ambassador, Clemens Koja, who answered journalists’ questions about the current developments in the country and said that they would respect the decision of Alternativa, noting that in the previous elections as a coalition they received 82 thousand votes for, as he said, “anti DUI politics ”.
– A year and a half ago we went out with Mr. Gashi in the parliamentary elections and we received votes from the citizens against the policies of DUI. The agreement was signed in four years and they certainly do not have to abide by it. As they decide, so. We will respect their decision. If they enter the government, that government will not be sustainable, because there is instability in SDSM, said Taravari.
Regarding the activities of the “Alliance for Albanians” party, he noted that they will remain in opposition and are already making preparations for the Congress that they plan for the spring. At that congress, the priority will be the reorganization and rebranding of the party with which they will run in the upcoming elections.
