The Prime Minister and President of SDSM, Zoran Zaev, in tonight’s guest appearance on Sitel TV reiterated that if the SDSM candidate in Skopje, the current mayor Petre Shilegov, loses the battle against the opposition candidate Danela Arsovska, he “can not lead the Government”, because , according to him, the local government in that case will obstruct the policies at the central level. But Zaev clarified that this does not automatically mean that early parliamentary elections will be called, informs Sloboden Pecat.
“The message is generally about mobilization. I have fought against the regime, I have fought inside, I have made courageous decisions. But it needs the support of the citizens. You can not have municipalities that spread nationalism, conservatism. Have policies that will quarrel with your neighbors. I said openly, I or the Government translated by me, can no longer lead like that. The parliamentary majority is stable, I believe we will have some more. You can not be a locomotive, to be a leader in such a situation. “The message is to the citizens, to come out, to give their direction,” said Zaev.
To the question whether this means that he will resign, and someone else from SDSM will take over the post of Prime Minister, Zaev answered:
“Certainly, a government led by SDSM, with its partners, plus a strengthened majority, remains a government led by SDSM.”
He reiterated the messages that a significant part of the population showed them a “yellow card” and that the message was understood.
“We are not defeated by VMRO-DPMNE. “Free-minded citizens say they will go to the polls in the second round,” Zaev said.
