Prime Minister Zaev, on his official Facebook page, on the occasion of 30 years of the adoption of the Declaration on the International Recognition of the Republic of Macedonia as a sovereign and independent state in the Macedonian Assembly on December 19, 1991, wrote that this date has a special place and meaning, and is one of the three fundamental documents of statehood.
“This Declaration, together with the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia of January 25, 1991 and the Declaration on the occasion of the referendum expressed will of the citizens for a sovereign and independent Macedonian state of September 17 the same year, are the three fundamental documents of our modern, sovereign, independent and internationally recognized state”, is said in Zaev’s post on the official Facebook page.
According to the Prime Minister, these are decisions worthy of pride, in decisive moments, when historical issues were being resolved and when the citizens of our country and responsible political leaders made major decisions and made true and correct choices.
“Today we can freely say that as a country created with a just fight, as a country that in a dignified manner and without violence won its independence, North Macedonia enjoys special reputation in the world and has gained the trust to be a desired strategic partner of the largest countries of the Western-European democratic civilization circle.

According to Zaev, our place in the United Nations is a crystal clear and unequivocal confirmation of the Macedonian language and Macedonian identity. “The Macedonian language is used and is officially translated freely, everywhere in all international institutions, activities and events”, writes Zaev.
“We determinedly reached the Agreement on Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation with Bulgaria and the Prespa Agreement with Greece and made a breakthrough internationally and realized one of the strategic goals – NATO membership. NATO membership is a sovereign expression of our choice that we want to be part of the Euro-Atlantic community of democracies. A determination that has always had strong public support and enjoyed broad supra-party and interethnic consensus. Different generations of politicians, professionals of the public administration and of the Army were for years dedicated and committed to achieving this common strategic goal of ours”, is highlighted in the post.
For the second goal, EU membership, the Prime Minister pointed out that the Council of the EU has given a unanimous green light for start of the negotiations with North Macedonia after a series of exceptionally positive reports of the European Commission on the reform progress that our country has made.
“It remains for the European Union to show in action that the enlargement process of the Western Balkans is alive and that European values and enlargement principles are still a reality. From the best of the past, we have created a state with quite a certain European future. That is our contribution to the generations after us. The Macedonian future is European”, says Zaev in the post on the occasion of 30 years of the adoption of the Declaration of International Recognition of the country.
