Friends are always welcome to help, but the dispute with Bulgaria is definitely bilateral and should be handled as such, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said on Friday.
Following Thursday’s phone call with Bulgarian counterpart Stefan Yanev, Zaev noted that countries have agreed on next steps, which he added, will be reaffirmed by Bulgaria, in line with news set to be delivered by Presidents Radev and Pendarovski.
“The talk reaffirmed the friendship between our two countries. Support for the EU integration of the Western Balkan countries, including North Macedonia, is our wish and hopefully Bulgaria’s aspiration. However, it’s important that we continue to work on finding solutions. Europe owes us a lot,” Zaev stressed.
He reiterated that North Macedonia has been waiting at Europe’s door for 16.5 years.
“It’s too much. We’ve delivered on reforms, European manners and solving problems through dialogue. We deserve this. I call on Bulgaria to support North Macedonia, because it’s easy to inspire conflict between nations, but difficult to build friendships and promote relations. Our present actions dictate the future of next generations,” the PM said.
