The decision who will be a director of a health institution, like for all other institutions, is a political one, though basically the condition for election is nevertheless expertise, said today Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in a reply to a journalist question.
According to him, doctors can contribute much also with their social engagement, not just professional engagement. That is why many of them are in directorial positions. Most of them are appointed as acting officials due to the transparent procedures, but later an opportunity is given on a competitive basis for others.
As Zaev said, more than 80 percent of directors in health institutions are with permanent decisions, and among them, apart from doctors, there are economists as well.
-Most directors of health institutions too are appointed politically, as citizens transfer the political responsibility to the politicians and political parties and they take on the responsibility through their politically appointed managerial structures. Another thing is that many of the doctors of health institutions are appointed on the basis of expertise. However, the decision for one, and not the other, is a political one, because we believe that the right to manage the institutions comes with the responsibility of the institutions. Our wish is for primarily doctors to lead health institutions, and that is why most of the directors are doctors, although there are economists as well, explained Zaev.
He added that what we talked about in superlative about our doctors also applies in the part of their social engagement, not just professional engagement. They are represented in candidacies for mayors, council members, MPs, senior holders of executive power, and even directorial positions, because they have knowledge, quality, are socially responsible and can contribute much to the state system.
