NEWS OF THE DAY: Nikolovski and Zaev give up travel expenses, CIVIL calls for others to also follow their example
SDSM Secretary General Ljupco Nikolovski together with SDSM President Zoran Zaev have signed a statement with which they officially renounce travel expenses they are entitled to.
“The cancellation of travel expenses for MPs is an election promise made by SDSM and our program commitment. In order to give an example, to be the ones from whom this initiative will start in practice, yesterday, together with SDSM President Zoran Zaev, we signed the statements with which he and I officially renounce the funds we are entitled to for travel expenses. We encourage our colleagues from all parties to follow this step. To make a small contribution in directing as much as possible money to the citizens, to the ones who need them the most”, wrote Nikolovski on Facebook.
“I welcome their decision and taking an initiative, and on behalf of CIVIL, I call on the other MPs to follow this. This is an election promise made by SDSM and goes in the same direction as CIVIL’s initiative for abolishing the privileges of officials that we started in May 2019 and have submitted to Parliament. It would be good for that Initiative to finally be on the agenda of the new composition of MPs and to adopt the abolition of privileges, starting from former presidents, and ending with heads of state agencies and other institutions, including also the travel expenses of MPs”, stated CIVIL President Xhabir Deralla.
Following Zaev and Nikolovski, VMRO-DPMNE Secretary General Igor Janusev also gave up his travel expenses. “I personally, as an MP, will not be using travel expenses, but I have to comment SDSM on that, in that it’s no use giving up travel expenses when you have deprived the state and the people”, wrote Janusev on Facebook.
