– Today’s topic inspires me to present ideas that may be different from what we are used to hearing about hybrid threats, hate speech and fake news. Finally I see proactivity, more “for” versus less “against”. All of us who deal with public relations, influence on the public, for too long we are stuck in dealing with negative phenomena, negative influences, such as disinformation and that we have forgotten a bit what are the things we need to promote, said National Coordinator for Strategic Communications Marjan Zabrcanec , at the panel discussion of CIVIL on the topic “The highway with facts, responsibility and determination against the relentlessness of dangerous disinformation”.
I am encouraged by the way NATO says in its latest strategic documents that we are not recognized, or do not want to be recognized against what we are fighting for, but want us to be known for what we are promoting. Social actors who have taken responsibility and set out to promote coexistence, dialogue and understanding must invest much more in the causes “for” rather than “against”.
We have all talked too long about fighting disinformation, dealing with fake attacks, defending against hybrid threats, forgetting what our democratic agenda is, about what we have fought in the streets before. All of us who advocate democratic values should pay attention to FOR, in order to attract the citizens to be on that highway of good things, against the dark channels of misinformation.
We are on the highway, they are in the dark tunnels.
