Four months after the elections and Macedonia is sinking into political games, pressures, chaos…Instead of a way out, which will clean up the crime and corruption in the state apparatus, it is going through the most complex political crisis since its independence in 1991. The state, institutions and the citizens are captives to the actions of the politicians.
President Gjorge Ivanov continues to have the key role, who has remained faithful to VMRO-DPMNE to which he is close and its leader Nikola Gruevski, and therefore according to the interpretations of numerous experts on the Constitution, he is unconstitutionally refusing to give the mandate to the parliamentary majority. For Ivanov it is not enough that out of a total of 120 MPs, the majority of 67 MPs from SDSM, DUI, Besa and the Alliance for Albanians agree on forming a government. He remains decisive in the position that this majority will implement the so-called Tirana platform, which according to him threatens the unitary character of the state and is a serious threat to the survival of Macedonia, within its existing borders.
A new episode of the constitutive session in Parliament
Each continuation of the constitutive session in Parliament is as if it was according to a previously written scenario, with a series of comments by VMRO-DPMNE MPs, who are deliberately trying to prolong the election of a new president, vice president and members and deputies of the Committee on Elections and Appointments.
From VMRO-DPMNE there are constant accusations that SDSM is planning a putsch in parliament, by violating the rules of procedure, by preventing the MPs and by disrupting the debate on the so-called Tirana platform.
SDSM announce that regardless of such destructive steps by VMRO-DPMNE, that soon the constitutive session will successfully finish, and that Macedonia will finally receive a new government that will open a new page of Macedonian democracy and progress.
Messages for “ready” coming from “For a Joint Macedonia”
The leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski, continues to play a significant role on the political scene in Macedonia, who is intensifying the rhetoric. He clearly stated: “VMRO-DPMNE will react strongly if SDSM attempts, contrary to the Rules of Procedure, to elect a president of the Parliament. If SDSM enter a scenario of undemocratic and unruly behavior, then a serious reaction from the people in Macedonia should be expected”.
SDSM says “the oppositional VMRO-DPMNE to withdraw from the violence against the parliamentary majority. Several criminals from the top of VMRO-DPMNE should not be putting at risk the interests of the citizens of the state. The leadership of VMRO-DPMNE should withdraw from provocations, from fueling ethnic tensions and hatred. Very soon the new president of the Parliament will be elected, and after that also the new reform government of the citizens of unitary Macedonia”.
Messages for “ready” and mass protests were also sent by the organizers of the protests “For a Joint Macedonia”. They assessed the following several days as crucial, and announced intensifying of the protest marches, through which they demand rejection of the so-called Tirana Platform and preserving the unity of the country.
The international community with a clear position: a new speaker and government without a delay!
The European Unity is expecting a new parliament speaker and the formation of a new government based on the parliamentary majority. Today clear messages also arrived from the European Commission spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic. EU says – “all political leaders and institutions in Macedonia need to allow for the democratic process to take place”.
