The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic declared that on Thursday, after the session of December 15, he will ask KFOR to grant him the right to send 1,000 Serbian troops into Kosovo, euronews.al informs.
Vucic made the statement this Monday in Belgrade, where he added that the request is based on resolution 1244, writes N1.
With this warning, he responded to the increased presence of the Kosovo Police in the northern part of the country, which is inhabited by a majority of Serbs.
Resolution 1244, adopted in 1999, provided a framework for resolving the conflict in Kosovo, authorizing the establishment of an international civilian and military presence. It also established an international transitional administration and oversaw the withdrawal of Serbian military forces from Kosovo.
Article 4 confirms that after the withdrawal, a number of Yugoslav and Serbian military and police personnel will be allowed to return to Kosovo, to exercise their functions in accordance with Annex 2.
Article 6 of annex 2 mentions the following functions: Liaison with the international civilian mission and the international security presence; marking/clearing minefields; maintaining a presence near Serbian heritage sites; maintaining a presence at key border crossings.
