No matter how soft-spoken they are, no matter how much they hide behind their academic, political or social positions, titles and statuses, nationalists are and will remain ordinary fraudsters and intimidators. The partiality and hatred reveal the insecurity and inability for them to face reality, to build a present for themselves and for others, to build a future for the next generations, for the generations to come.
Nationalists and their leaders are closed in dark in cold places, where silence that the despot demands from his subjects rules. Those who devote themselves to nationalism and hatred, freely agree to their own slavery as well. Those are narrow cells in which sickness and decay rule. And serving the single-mindedness and closed circle of potentates who are getting rich on the backs of those who are frightened, divided and bitter.
Nationalists live in an imaginary world where myths, stupid fairy tales and facts are intertwined. It’s a space where ethnic hatred and chauvinism are created by bloodthirsty maniacs in the academia, politics and institutions, at the work place, in classrooms and university amphitheatres, in café bars and teahouses, at stadiums, and even in kindergartens…
Protected by mutual underestimating and ignorance, every ethnic herd builds myths about the “greatness” of its own nation and the “nothingness” of the others. And hence, those parallel worlds are created and kept alive, with myths and lies interwoven in every pore of life…
Diversity is richness and an advantage in every sense of the word. Diversity is richness in every place, at every time, in every situation in life.
Tolerance and respect for diversity are not items on a menu, so today I will choose to have them, tomorrow not. The principles of tolerance apply every day, not understood in a vulgar and distorted way, but as a base for an inclusive society, caring for every person, regardless of their origin, affiliation, determination or social status.
Human rights and freedoms, equality – belong equally to everyone, to every person, just because they were born a human being. No one can give equality, no one can take away the equality.
It often seems impossible, but… Tolerance, peaceful resolution of conflicts and respect for opponents, instead of declaring them enemies, is one of the better ways of preserving human dignity and making the world a better place for living. Respecting and fostering diversity make a person greater and richer. And it depends on all of us.
Each day we are faced with a choice. Monochromatic poverty of the spirit or unlimited richness of diversity. Evilness, fear, divisions and violence or goodness, solidarity and humanity. Future or no future.
If you missed yesterday, it doesn’t mean that you cannot become better people, to respect the diversity in others, starting today! Starting now!
