Use of term ‘Macedonia’ is allowed, but when it comes to the formulating requirements and manner of approval, the Constitution and the Prespa Agreement must be observed, says Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.
“Justice Minister Boja Marichikj has signed many decisions setting up associations of citizens that use term ‘Macedonia’, and this is clear in accordance with the Prespa Agreement, the Constitution, the law ratifying the Prespa Agreement etc. It relates to internal and international use. It relates to the observance of the Constitution in the issuance of documents. Therefore, the use of term ‘Macedonia’ is allowed, but when it comes to formulating requirements and manner of approval, the country’s law must be respected,” PM Zaev told reporters.
He adds that legal entities, associations of citizens not funded by the state can freely use term ‘Macedonia’.
“The state, the official institutions and all public institutions should use the Prespa Agreement and respect the Constitution, namely Republic of North Macedonia. All private entities funded by the state and being represented outside of the country use North Macedonia,” noted Zaev when asked about the Justice Minister’s approval for associations using word ‘Macedonia’ in their name.
