Anti-European installations, false neutrals and quasi intellectuals, rashists, gruevists, radicals, hidden and open nationalists, dominate in TV programs and in much of the Internet and print media in the country. An enormous part of the media islike billboards for the nationalist opposition, which has been joined by some academics and NGO follies.
Information programs for a long time now start and end with an ever more open anti-government propaganda, and not so-much (or, not always so much) of open anti-Western propaganda and/or nationalistic narratives hidden behind the “fight against corruption”. In online media, on the other hand, national chauvinism, disinformation and hatred speech are spreading, practically, without stopping. And all this, in the service of protecting the people, identity, pride… Patriotic, with one word.
And despite the undisputed dominance in the media, the “guardians” of the national honor, editors and journalists, and all who in any way have an influence on politics and create public opinion, can’t imagine that there are authors, media outlets and organizations with a completely different opinion. These being progressive, pro-European and pro-democratic intellectuals, media and organizations that unequivocally and clearly declare their progressive orientation.
Regardless of the fact that it concerns a small number of public opinion makers, and an even smaller number of media outlets and organizations, whose budgets are often less than modest, they are nevertheless understrong propaganda fire. They are systematically blocked and squeezed out of the public communication and the media space.
At the same time, a dirty hunt is being carried out against them in the media and social networks to discredit, disparage and intimidate them. In addition to their reputation and work and social security being threatened, theirphysical security is also threatened every day. In addition to all this, the progressives are also a target of lawsuits and are dragged in courts, where they lose cases from party leaders, with absurd rulings by judges who favor them. The self-regulatory bodies and media organization, as well as organizations, at one time formed as branches of big international human rights organizations, with famous names – remain silent.
Why doesn’t’ the media “elite want to hear the voice of the progressive and pro-European intellectuals and organizations? Why do a large number of editors have their own “notebooks” in which the names are written of whose voices must not be heard.
Just one of the numerous examples is the case with the signatory of these lines, whose name must not be mentioned on Macedonian radio, for example. Not even on the topic of weapons control and the fight against the cult of gun violence (in the days following the mass shooting and massacre in Serbia).
Really, has anyone asked themselves – who does it suit for them to be completely squeezed out of the public discourse? Not to be on the margins, but rather not have them!
There are more reasons, but it’s enough to know that progressive authors, media and organizations, no matter how much they don’t dominate the public scene, still are an everyday, very unpleasant reminder of the infamous actions of those who dedicatedly (and obediently) work on anti-democratic, nationalist and anti-Western agendas.
Unfortunately, this text can be declared an evergreen, because it could have been written last year too, and probably even earlier, for example, from 2018 and onwards.
