The Union of High School Students has accepted the option to take two external and two internal exams from the state exit examination, i.e. the third external exam to be internal. It, however, has set three conditions before the solution is fully accepted. The organization demands the formation of a working group, which will include its representatives and officials from the State Exam Center as well as high school teachers with an official from the PM’s office at the helm.
The working group should decide on the abbreviated curriculums involving the external exams (mother tongue, foreign language and math) and on what won’t be included in the exams. The body is expected to complete its task by mid-March and the head of the State Exam Center will be in charge of implementing its recommendations.
It is designed to meet the demand of the Union of High School students regarding abbreviated curriculums.
According to the second condition of the high school students, teachers should share with students exam materials for the internal exams and education authorities should make sure teachers share the exam materials with their students at least three weeks ahead of examination day.
“Exam materials refer to the exam format, specific content covered by the exam as well as sets of questions for the exam. This step is expected to allow high school graduates to prepare for their exams,” said the Union.
Under the third condition, the coefficient for points involving an inadequate external exam should undergo changes. According to the current model, if an external exam is inadequate to enroll at university, the exam should be at least five points. To change the coefficients of internal exams, it means that an inadequate internal exam would be more than an inadequate external exam (six points compared to five).
“As a result, we demand the coefficient for inadequate external exam be changed into 0.7. It means that an inadequate external exam would be seven points,” the organization of high school students said.
With the three conditions, said the Union, in addition to the compromise we continue to make sure the voice of high school students is heard and the relevant authorities should admit that the school year is not like any other and state examination has to undergo changes.
“Even though a joint solution was reached, our fight continues as long as we implement the complete solution and our conditions are met,” noted the Union of High School Students.
