The U.S. will put pressure on Bulgaria and North Macedonia to quickly resolve disputes, the former head of Bulgaria’s State Intelligence Agency, Dimo Gyaurov, told TV Nova on Monday.
He noted that President Joe Biden’s administration and the Democratic Party are interested in swifter development of Western Balkan countries which may result in Washington pressuring Sofia and Skopje to overcome differences.
“Therefore, Bulgarian diplomats have to present our position with clear arguments that the Americans will understand,” Gyaurov stressed.
The ex-intelligence chief expects pressure from the U.S. regarding Bulgaria’s energy projects with Russia, especially those referring to gas transit and halting the construction of a nuclear power plant in Belene.
