Turkey will collaborate with North Macedonia in introducing an agricultural insurance system modeled after the Turkish one (TARSIM), according to an agreement the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Arianit Hoxha and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini reached with TARSIM representatives during a meeting Thursday.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this kind of system offers a long-term solution to problems arising from natural disasters and climate change while also promoting the country’s insurance sector.
“Climate change is as a serious threat to agricultural production and we need an organized approach to adapt to it as well as protect our agricultural products through insuring them,” the release adds.
Working groups of experts from both sides will be formed to begin the process of establishing an agricultural insurance system, the release adds.
Agriculture Minister Hoxha and Environment Minister Nuredini met with the General Manager of TARSIM, Serpil Günal; Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry representative Bekir Engürülü; and members of the TARSIM board of directors.
