Imagine you are a conservative white nationalist who supports the idea of a total ban on abortion. You don’t give a dime about what goes on in Ukraine, the Middle East, or any other crisis region in the world. And you certainly don’t support any kind of humanitarian or military aid to Ukraine, or to any other country for that matter. You believe that countries should pay for the military protection offered by the U.S., and they should pay well. The United States should worry about itself, and that’s where the story ends.
Does Trump fit your standpoints? It certainly seems so.
Should you vote for him?
Most certainly NOT. And, here’s why.
If you hold these viewpoints—anti-abortion, indifferent to international crises, opposed to humanitarian aid, and strongly believe that the U.S. should focus solely on its own affairs—Trump might appear to align with your beliefs… On the surface! Progressive Americans are right to claim that his inflammatory rhetoric and policies toward racial minorities have deepened social divisions and fueled hatred and bigotry. Instead of promoting unity, Trump has actively alienated entire communities, jeopardizing the very social fabric of the nation. Still, his “America First” and “Make America Great Again” rhetoric may resonate with you because of its self-centered foreign policy stance. But aligning on these issues and voting for Trump are two very different things. Let’s take a look.
Abortion
Abortion is one of the hottest topics in U.S. elections. Trump’s stance on abortion, while seemingly aligned with conservative positions, is more about manipulating the issue for political gain than defending genuine moral values. His lack of empathy for women and marginalized groups shows a fundamental disregard for human dignity and justice.
Climate change and science
Trump’s climate change denial and attacks on environmental protections are, to say the least, utterly reckless. Ignoring science, he gutted climate policies, putting future American generations and the entire planet at risk—all to protect corporate interests. His disregard for the environment contradicts the long-term security and prosperity of the U.S. And the world, although he and MAGA supporters might not care.
Tragic and reckless handling of the COVID-19 pandemic
Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic will forever be remembered for its recklessness and disregard for public health and science. His downplaying of the virus, refusal to lead a coherent national response, and bizarre public statements—including the dangerous suggestion that injecting disinfectants like bleach could combat the virus—were not only scientifically absurd but also put countless lives at risk. His failure to take the pandemic seriously led to tragic loss of life and prolonged suffering across the country.
Putin’s lapdog: Endangering national sovereignty and security
Supporting Trump based on conservative beliefs, even if they’re justified, overlooks his dangerous flaws. Trump is not only a felon, a misogynist, and a bully, but he’s also disturbingly submissive to authoritarian leaders, particularly the Russian dictator and war criminal Putin. His actions and words over the years and now have repeatedly shown that he’s more interested in pleasing Putin than protecting U.S. national interests. This courteousness and attentiveness to Russia, a nation actively undermining democracy, waging a brutal war against sovereign Ukraine, and conducting aggressive propaganda and hybrid operations against the West, is a direct threat to America’s security. It contradicts the very principles of national sovereignty and democracy that you might claim to uphold.
By siding with Putin, Trump has shown he’s willing to let foreign powers weaken the U.S. and its global standing. If you care about a strong and independent United States—one that leads with strength and defends democracy—supporting Trump would be a dangerous contradiction. His actions align with authoritarian regimes, NOT with the American people. Voting for him would mean endorsing a man who compromises U.S. security and democracy for personal gain and flattery from foreign dictators.
Simply, Trump is the wrong choice to help “Make America Great Again”
Trump’s harmful standpoints on COVID, abortion, gender issues, racial minorities, climate change, and his role as a lapdog for Putin all point to one conclusion: his leadership is harmful, selfish, and threatens the very principles that make the U.S. a great democracy. Voting for him means endorsing not only these dangerous positions, but also an individual who prioritizes personal gain over the national interest, at the expense of American lives and values.
Let me just say this in the end: If you’re a MAGA believer, Trump is the wrong choice to help “Make America Great Again.” On the contrary, being a Republican or a MAGA supporter still means being an American and believing in the Constitution and democracy. Even if you’re conservative—or even racist or misogynist—these views still stand in stark opposition to the disaster that Trump’s return to the Oval Office would represent.
