Total population 2,097,319 people, of whom 54.21 percent Macedonians and 29.52 percent Albanians

The total enumerated population is 2,097,319 people. Of them, 54.21 percent declared themselves Macedonians, 29.52% Albanians, 3.98% Turks, 2.34% Roma, 1.18% Serbs, 0.87% Bosniaks and 0.44% Vlachs, shows the data from the 2021 Census that were announced today by the Director of the State Statistical Office, Apostol Simovski.

According to Simovski, the total resident population is 1,836,713 people, while the non-resident population is 260,606 people.

-Of the total resident population 58.44% are Macedonians, 24.3% Albanians, 3.86% Turks, 2.53% Roma, 0.47% Vlachs, 1.3% Serbs and 0.87% Bosniaks, whereas from the non-resident population covered by the census 24.45% Macedonians, 66.36% Albanians, 4.79% Turks, 1.02% Roma, 0.19% Vlachs, 0.35% Serbs and 0.81% Bosniaks, said Simovski.

The census shows that the number of households is 598,632.

The smallest municipality in the country is Zrnovci, and the biggest Kumanovo. 207 empty settlements have also been counted.

Number of foreigners temporarily present in the country for less than 12 months is

1, 674.

-The census was carried out successfully and professionally. The team of the State Statistical Office proved that it can, knows and is capable, that it is one of the most professional institutions in the country, said Simovski, adding that the data was processed in record time.

Publication of the data of the census that was conducted in the period September 5 to September 30, 2021, will be performed successively, by sets of data. The first set that is being published today, includes data on the total resident population, the total non-resident population, gender, age, ethnicity, religion, mother tongue and language that is usually spoken in households, number of dwellings and number of households, and in the coming months sets of data will be published on the educational and economic characteristics of the population, dwellings, households, disability…

Before today’s announcement of the data, certificates of appreciation were given to the institutions that contributed to the successful implementation of this complex statistical operation.
