The EU-Western Balkans Summit in Sofia is in the media focus in Macedonia, especially because of Zoran Zaev’s presence and address. The European Union today will give a new promise for membership of its partners from the Western Balkans, at a time when the six countries, among which Macedonia as well, are listed in the draft-declaration that will be adopted in Sofia, but without the most desired reward – an accession date.
In Sofia today, the meeting between Zaev and Alexis Tsipras also concluded. This meeting was announced as crucial in the process of solving the name dispute, and that perhaps a final agreement for the name might could result out of it. After Zaev’s press conference, the response remains that there is one option for which they agreed with Tsipras as a possible solution for the name.
In the Criminal Court, the final words were given for the “Tank” case, after which a verdict is expected, which will be the first ruling for Nikola Gruevski out of the 5 charges of the Special Prosecutor’s Office. A hearing was held in the case “Spy”, in which 18 people have been convicted for criminal association, espionage, blackmail, fraud and illegal possession of weapons. A new hearing was also held for the “Vault” case, in which the former director of UBK, Saso Mijalkov, former chief of his cabinet Toni Jakimovski, former Assistant Minister in the MOI Nebojsa Stajkovik and the former Chief of the Fifth Department in the MOI, Goran Grujevski, are accused for abuse of power and authority and causing damage to the Budget in the amount of 862.045 euros for the procurement of electronic- communications equipment.
On the occasion of International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, May 17, CIVIL asked that instead of fear, hatred and discrimination, we orient ourselves towards humanity, solidarity and accepting that all individuals, regardless of their gender, religious, ethnic, sexual and other affiliations, have a right to a dignified life, and all of us as a community protect also their rights and freedoms.
