The President of the Government of Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, today met with Jan Petersen, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission for the upcoming referendum in Republic of Macedonia. At the meeting, there were discussions on the importance of the democratic implementation of the process and the need for high responsibility by all entities in the state, in order to ensure the voting of citizens, announced the Sector for Public Relations of the Government of Republic of Macedonia.
The campaign for the upcoming referendum, at which the citizens need to vote on September 30 whether they are for membership in EU and NATO by accepting the agreement between Macedonia and Greece, officially starts today. The Parliament of Republic of Macedonia is the carrier of the campaign, whereas the President of the Parliament, Talat Xhaferi, on Friday announced that they will be leading the camping transparently, directly, without discrimination or partiality, and by respecting the will of every citizen.
A Joint Interdisciplinary Committee of Experts (JICE) has been formed on historic, archeological and educational issues between Macedonia and Greece. There are seven members from the Macedonian side in the composition of the JICE, headed by Ambassador Viktor Gaber.
European Commission spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic, from Brussels said that she expects the citizens in Macedonia to vote at the referendum without external interference, reported the correspondent of MIA from Brussels.
Academic Vlado Kambovski at today’s press conference, asked about his recent statement about those who will be boycotting the referendum, said that it is not acceptable for citizens to be going door-to-door and threatening other citizens not to go to vote at the referendum on September 30.
Exercising the inviolable right to vote of citizens is the main goal of the new project “I vote, therefore I am”, which CIVIL – Center for Freedom, tomorrow (Tuesday, September 11) will promote in several municipalities of the Vardar region.
The citizens of the municipalities of Veles, Gradsko, Rosoman, Kavadarci and Negotino will have the opportunity at CIVIL’s info stands to inform themselves and to share their views, opinions and information in relation to the upcoming referendum, with representatives of the organization, and to leave their messages on the panels put up on the squares in these municipalities, or to leave their message anonymously in a “ballot box”. Furthermore, they will also be able to freely express their opinion in front of the cameras of the team CIVIL MEDIA (an organizational unit of CIVIL).
