Syrian media reported on Sunday that three soldiers were killed and three others injured in an air strike, blaming the attack on Israeli forces. Targets near the capital Damascus were hit by Israeli missiles, the Syrian state news agency Sana reported, transmits MIA.
At the same time, the Tartus region was attacked from the Mediterranean Sea.
The Israeli army did not comment on the reports. Israel’s air force regularly bombs targets in neighboring Syria, parts of which are still in the throes of a civil war. Israel’s strategic aim is to prevent its arch-enemy Iran and militias allied with Tehran from expanding their military influence in Syria.
Along with Russia, Iran is the Syrian government’s most important ally in the civil war.
