The director of the State Student Centre, Dario Nikolovski, who accompanied Minister Carovska during the visit to “Kuzman Josifovski-Pitu” student dorm said that ten days ago the government adopted a decision for opening of student dorms on October 5, but with reduced capacity.
“Each room where there are two beds will accommodate only one student, and where there are four beds will accommodate a maximum of two students. The use of common areas will be banned, and the canteens will function so that the tables will be separated by two meters. There will be hand sanitizers at the entrances of the dorms,” Nikolovski said.
He stressed that new way of living in the dormitories can be realized only together with the students and expected their support and understanding, aimed at protecting public health.
Minister of Education and Science Mila Carovska during the visit to “Kuzman Josifovski-Pitu” student dorm on Saturday said that it is important to provide accommodation for students who will attend combined or in-person classes in schools and faculties.
“1,193 students have been admitted to the dormitories, and there are vacancies for another 1,058, and 73 who are from Bitola and Strumica will get the opportunity to be accommodated in private accommodation or to travel home, in accordance with the new legal changes. There are 160 vacancies in the other dormitories,” Carovska noted.
She emphasized that according to the new COVID-19 protocols, the capacity in the dormitories in Skopje is to accommodate 2,080 students. So far, a total of 1,614 students have been admitted.
She said that there are additional vacancies for accommodation of students, if in the next period some faculties change the way of teaching from online classes to in-person classes.
Carovska also said low-income students have the opportunity to apply for one-time financial aid at that the website of the Ministry of Education and Science and the application www.digitalizirajse.mon.gov.mk
Carovska called on students to apply for a one-time financial aid of Mden 6,000 (EUR 100) by October 10 for payment for enrollment in a semester, accommodation in a dormitory or private accommodation.
