The United States expects to continue cooperation with Northern Macedonia in areas of common interest, the State Department told The Voice of America in Macedonian, responding to a request to comment on the announcement of the resignation of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev after yesterday’s local elections.
The statement emphasizes that:
“The United States considers Northern Macedonia a trusted and valued partner in the region, and looks forward to continuing co-operation with the Government of Northern Macedonia in areas of common interest, while continuing the progress it has made towards Euro-Atlantic integration.”
Zaev announced yesterday that he was resigning from the post of Prime Minister, as well as the position of President of SDSM, after his Social Democratic Union lost the local elections, in which the opposition VMRO-DPMNE won in 42 municipalities, including Skopje.
