The Interior Ministry has been analyzing where the Citizenship Law should be amended to enable people, who have missed deadlines due to credible reasons, to acquire citizenship of the Republic of North Macedonia without violating the national and state interests, said Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski.
“Once they are drafted, we will unveil them, and send them to the government before being forwarded to Parliament,” he told reporters Friday.
The Interior Ministry, Spasovski noted, is solely in charge of putting forward a citizenship law to be adopted.
Asked to comment on the draft-law put forward by the Alliance for Albanians/Alternativa opposition coalition, he called it ‘political pamphlet.’ “They do not offer a permanent solution,” Spasovski said.
We, the Minister added, need a permanent solution, we need to protect the state and national interests all the while protecting the citizens who are here and who should obtain a citizenship after having failed to do so due to credible reasons.
