After the consolidation and strengthening of the parliamentary majority, which is expected to happen soon, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will activate the resignations he announced – both the position of Prime Minister and the leadership of SDSM. Then will follow the election of a new leader of SDSM, and he will be the prime minister-designate for the composition of the new government, says a source for Sloboden Pecat.
There will be no reshuffle of the Government, but a new government that will be formed by a new Prime Minister, who will also be the leader of SDSM, well-informed sources from the cabinet of the current Prime Minister and leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev, told “Free Press”. After the consolidation and strengthening of the parliamentary majority, which is expected to happen soon, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev will activate the resignations he announced – both the position of Prime Minister and the leadership of SDSM. According to this unofficial scenario for the development of events, after the formalization of the resignations will follow the election of a new leader of SDSM, and he will be the prime minister-designate for the composition of the new government, says a source for Sloboden Pecat.
If Alternative definitely decides to be part of the government, then the majority will have at least 64 MPs, including Kastriot Rexhepi from Besa.
According to Sloboden Pecat, Zaev will postpone the submission of resignations until the moment when he secures the majority. As soon as that happens, SDSM will immediately get a new party leader in the direct elections. Zaev’s successor has not been revealed yet. He will be elected by several nominees from which the membership will vote for the new president in direct elections. He will be the new prime minister-designate for the new government, he will form his own cabinet, which means that there will be no reshuffle of the current government. Zaev and the leader of Alternativa, Afrim Gashi, will start the talks today in the MPs’ Club. Assuming that party agrees to join the ruling majority, then the ministerial positions for Alternative will be in a package with the personnel decisions for the new government. In that case, with the resignation of Prime Minister Zaev, the entire government will resign. The new prime minister-designate will propose to the President Stevo Pendarovski a program and a new composition of the Government. It is assumed that some of the current ministers will retain their positions in the new government, and it is certain that the DUI ministers will not be replaced.
That Zaev will succeed in strengthening the majority of MPs, indicate the positive signals from Alternative. The MP and member of the presidency of Alternative, Skender Rexhepi, on the eve of today’s meeting between Zaev and Gashi told “Free Press” that he believes that the party bodies will decide Alternative to be part of the Government. Rexhepi says that the expectations in the party are that they will give priority to the European integration processes of the country and the program promises to the citizens.
– The differences in the party have melted and I expect its bodies to make a decision to enter the Government, but we will still wait until the final decision. The country’s integration into the EU is a priority, not the overthrow of the Government. I believe that we will give priority to the European integration processes, as well as to the realization of the program, which Alternative promised to the citizens and our voters – says Rexhepi.
He claims that so far there has been no offer for ministerial positions and expects the picture to be clearer after the meeting between Zaev and Gashi. Unofficially, Alternative is expected to get two ministerial posts, deputy ministers and more directorial posts, as the stability of the majority will depend on them. It is rumored that MPs from the opposition Alliance for Albanians and Besa may join the ruling majority, but so far there is no confirmation, except that the government is talking to several MPs whose priority is European integration.
Confirmation that (will) have a stable parliamentary majority, came yesterday from Zaev. The Prime Minister said this at a meeting with the Austrian Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michael Linhart.
– We have a stable parliamentary majority, we expect an increase of the majority, we do not expect early parliamentary elections, on the contrary – until the regular elections in June 2024, the Government will commit to strong economic development – said Zaev.
Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani is also convinced that there will be a consolidation of the majority soon.
– The new stable majority is absolutely indisputable and it will happen in the coming days. Negotiations are ongoing. I will repeat, it is very important that the rational political forces, even the MPs, decided at this moment not to turn the country into part of the problem, but part of the solution of our European perspective – says Osmani.
He stressed that the number of more than 60 MPs is both real and real, and how the majority will be realized, it is discussed and agreed with all political parties.
– Better to complete these negotiations with the coalition leaders and other possible partners. It would be good for those who will be part of the new government to want to be part of the new majority that guarantees stability and a European future for the country – said Osmani.
