Prime Ministers of North Macedonia and Serbia, Dimitar Kovachevski and Ana Brnabić announced on Wednesday modernization of the railway along Corridor 10, informs MIA.
Kovachevski pointed out that investments need to be made in Corridor 10 railway infrastructure in order to increase capacity and transport speed, while Brnabić stressed that one of the Serbian Government’s next priority is a high-speed railway from Belgrade to the border with North Macedonia.
“The Prime Minister briefed me on the plans as regards the railway being constructed in Serbia, and I also briefed her on our plans regarding the infrastructure construction. We’ve started a large investment cycle in North Macedonia, particularly the construction of Corridor 8, road and railway infrastructure, given that Corridor 10, which connects us with the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Greece is completely constructed in terms of the highway solution,” Kovachevski said.
Therefore, according to PM Kovachevski, in talks with European partners, particularly the EU, with multilateral financial institutions and regarding regional cooperation between the two countries, one of the priorities needs to be joint performance in providing funds to modernize railway infrastructure along Corridor 10. Serbian PM Brnabić said infrastructure connection and road and railway construction for better connection of the region is one of the basic pillars of regional cooperation and connectivity.
“It not only ensures connection between economies and businesses, but equally important, if not more so, it also ensures connecting people, exchange of experience, knowledge, travel, something that guarantees a better future for our countries. The Republic of Serbia has invested a lot in infrastructure connectivity in the region, as well as construction of roads, and it will further invest in the construction of railways,” said Brnabić.
She voiced satisfaction with the Corridor 10 being completed during her mandate, pointing out that the next priority of the Serbian Government is a high-speed railway, i.e. full modernization of the Corridor 10 railway from Belgrade to the border with North Macedonia.
Prime Ministers Kovachevski and Brnabić took part in the Macedonia2025 Summit in Skopje on Wednesday, and also held a bilateral meeting.
