The new Law on Labor Relations clearly regulates non-standard forms of employment, which will adapt the work processes to the new needs of the labor market. Workers’ rights will be fully protected, said today the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jagoda Shahpaska at the workshop “Validation of non-standard forms of employment in the Macedonian context.”
The Minister pointed out that good regulation and implementation of non-standard forms of employment enables rapid adaptation of employers to the dynamic labor market and dealing with labor shortages.
On the other hand, he said, it would make it easier for workers to access new jobs, especially for marginalized groups, young people, women, older workers and migrants.
According to the Minister, non-standard forms of employment must not be a means of reducing labor costs at the expense of basic labor rights.
– Therefore, we must be very careful in their regulation. The worker and his rights must not be endangered at any moment, Shahpaska said.
She stressed that the new Law on Labor Relations will clearly regulate part-time contracts, remote work and work from home, hiring domestic workers, seasonal and repetitive seasonal work, part-time work.
– The employment relationship will be better regulated by addressing the hidden employments, which are a substantial deviation from the standard employment. These are extremely important issues and that is why this workshop is very important for us as a country, so that we can bring real solutions that will be in the interest of both workers and employers, and thus will be in the interest of the state, said the Minister.
The workshop is organized by the International Labor Organization, and was addressed by the ILO National Coordinator, Emil Krstanovski. International legal and economic experts in the field of labor market, social dialogue and labor law, as well as experts and university professors from the country participated online, and representatives of workers and employers were present.
