The tension on the Belgrade-Pristina line still lasts. Kosovo Serb politicians are under strong pressure from Belgrade. They complain that they are being called traitors and that they are suffering various pressures. Some Kosovo analysts anticipate that former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army are to face marathon trials in The Hague. This is just part of the selection of CivilMedia’s editorial office on topics from Albanian media in the region after the New Year’s holiday.

KDP: Academician Abdulmenaf Bexheti: 2023 will be difficult, but there is room for optimism
“The consecutive crises in the last three years, without overcoming the COVID-19 one, which as such entered into the inflation crisis that culminated with an energy crisis and the collapse of the global supply chain, challenged even the science of economics, not just in relation to the time of duration and depth, but also in relation to the two-way ‘shocks’ at the same time, both on the supply side and in the demand side. BOTA SOT: Why is the demagogic patriotism of the leader important?
“The Kosovo society has a strong, submissive national awareness, but at the same time is struggling with an identity crisis. Many people feel that the basis of our democracy, the history of who ‘we’ are, is under pressure. There are many reasons for that, globalization of the economy, which is increasingly more disconnected from local communities that provided it with moral and institutional frameworks; discovering traditional role and relationshipmodels that support identity, and also creating large groups of people with different cultures, values, opinions and loyalties…”, an excerpt of the column “Why is the demagogic patriotism of the leader important?”, by Ali Hertica published in the Kosovo daily Bota Sot.
