ALBANIA: The opposition in Albania, headed by leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha, has started the announced protests against Rama’s government. The protests will continue today and in the next days, until, as Berisha promised, the removal of Edi Rama. According to Albanian researchers and journalists, the efforts of the new judicial institutions in the fight against corruption are “corroded” due to the weak functioning of the preventive mechanisms. Tirana has been declared the European capital of sports for 2023.
KOSOVO: Kosovo political analysts are questioning Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s request to the opposition for support in the dialogue process with Serbia. Funding for the “Trepca” mine has been misused by previous governments. Columnist Flaka Surroi publically pointsout leaders of the opposition parties for not taking responsibility for their share in the signing of the proposal for the formation of the Association of Serb municipalities in Kosovo.

TV KLAN: Opposition in Albania starts announced protests
The Albanian opposition yesterday started the announced protests. Yesterday there was a protest on the “Deshmoret e Kombit” boulevard against “Rama’s” government. The Democrats arrived at the blue headquarters a few hours before the start of the protest, and then together with the President of the DP, SaliBerisha, marched towards the Prime Minister’s Office. From the podium of the protest, the main Democrat made strong accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama, demanding his immediate departure.
The head of the Democrats said that through the corruption of former FBI official McGonigal, Rama took captive the former President of DP, Lulzim Basha, in order to destroy the opposition, reported Albanian media outlet TV Klan. The protests today will be held in front of the Albanian Parliament in Tirana.
SHEKULLI: Low level of penalties for corruption, only 257 former officials under investigation
The corruption in Albania further remains a disturbing phenomenon with consequences to the functioning of the state institutions. Albania continues to be one of the countries with high level of corruption and low impunity for senior officials, reports Albanian daily Shekulli.
ABC: Tirana, European capital of sports
“The proposal of the Municipality of Tirana, prepared in cooperation with representatives of sports, sports federations and the Albanian Olympic Committee is titled‘SPRINTirana – sport as a promoter of endurance, inclusiveness, nature and transformation’. The title ‘European city of sports 2023’ is awarded to different European cities by the ACES EUROPE institution, connected to the European Commission in Brussels“, reports the Albanian media outlet ABC.
BOTAPRESS: “Cowardliness” or a “new trick”: Why is Kurti’s government seeking support from the opposition in the dialogue?
“Prime Minister Albin Kurti at the parliamentary session on Thursday requested support from the opposition in the dialogue process with Serbia. Even though having the necessary votes in Parliament, he still requested support from the opposition, which is a minority in the Kosovo Parliament. Experts on the political situation in the country findKurti’s request strange and insincere”, reports Kosovo media outlet BOTAPRESS.
DUKAGJINI: Following the war, over 100 million euros have entered Trepca, some of which have vanished
“Kosovo Minister Artane Rizvanolli said that the claims that in Trepca there is no work going on and that it has bad management are not true, as she added also that it is an insult to the workers of Trepca to say that privatization is the solution.
She accused the previous governments of having invested over 100 million euros in Trepca and that part of that was misused”, reports Kosovo daily Dukagjini.
KOHA: “About earthquakes and fairy tales”
“Not one of the leaders of the opposition parties thought of uttering „mea culpa“onbehalf of the parties, for the fact that the ‘Association’ is a product of the signatures of the leaders of PDK, namely, of LDK and the vote of the majority MPs of these parties, a decade ago. None of them showed even the slightest of intention to engage in this phase of extreme pressure from the West, to decide together on the best option that will bring a solution to the problem in which they put Kosovo in”, an excerpt of the column “About earthquakes and fairy tales”, by renowned Kosovo columnist Flaka Surroi, published in the Kosovo daily KOHA.
