Russia has expelled an employee of North Macedonia’s Embassy in Moscow in response to the expulsion of a Russian diplomat in Skopje last month, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“Charge d’Affaires of the Republic of North Macedonia to the Russian Federation Olivera Chaushevska-Dimovska was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she was handed a note declaring an employee of the Embassy of North Macedonia in Moscow a persona non grata. This measure is a response to North Macedonia’s unwarranted decision in May to declare a diplomat at the Russian Embassy in Skopje a persona non grata,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
Russia’s move was confirmed by North Macedonia’s Foreign Ministry.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets this unfounded move by the Russian side, which is a political decision based solely on the principle of political retaliation, and which will thus negatively affect the intensity of bilateral relations between the two countries,” North Macedonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
