A delegation of the Romanian Armed Forces, led by Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-General Daniel Petrescu, visited Tuesday the Army’s General Staff and the Defence Ministry as part of its day-long visit to North Macedonia.
Gen. Petrescu met his host, Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, and Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska after a welcoming ceremony with top military honors, the General Staff said in a press release.
The two chiefs of general staff discussed bilateral cooperation between the two allied armies in NATO and ways to further expand it, including training, exercises and military education.
Minister Shekerinska at a meeting with Gen. Petrescu extended support for North Macedonia’s Army’s participation in the HQ Multinational Corps South-East, based in Romania. Romanian Ambassador Adela-Monica Axinte was also in attendance, said the press release.
“The visit paid by General Petrescu amid a pandemic demonstrates the strong unity of the allies and is considered a strong incentive to expand the cooperation,” said Shekerinska
At the meeting, the delegation of the Romanian Armed Forces was informed about the process of transformation and modernization of North Macedonia’s Army and its participation in NATO-led missions, said the press release.
They also discussed the capacities of Krivolak army ground, where the Decisive Strike 21 military exercise is due to take place as part of NATO’s large exercise Defender Europe 21, which includes 16 European countries.
Earlier, Gen. Petrescu met with President and Supreme Commander Stevo Pendarovski and is due to visit army units in Ilinden military barracks to attend an exercise of the Special Forces Battalion.
