The building of the Rangers Battalion, located at the Ilinden military barracks, is reconstructed for the first time in 50 years.
“This building will be used, as it is already being used, by the Rangers Battalion, one of our elite units. We are showing that by also investing in physical infrastructure, we want to turn the Army into a coveted employer,” Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska said after touring the renovated premises of the building, spanning 4,000 square meters. Reconstruction works are estimated at 44 million denars.
The building is one of the three facilities that are being overhauled in the country’s largest military barracks.
“I expect in the next ten days to put into service the second building, intended for the guard and logistics unit. A third building is also being reconstructed,” she said.
Almost all military barracks in the country are under renovation, according to her.
“Military barracks in Shtip, Veles, Kichevo and Tetovo are next so as to provide better conditions for our army with taxpayers’ money,” Minister Shekerinska said adding that NATO membership contributed not only to increased security, but also to improving the conditions for living and working of all servicemen.
