Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden are to meet for an online summit on Tuesday, with tensions over the Ukraine conflict expected to feature high on the agenda.
According to the Kremlin, the leaders will also discuss possible security guarantees between Russia and NATO. Putin had recently called on the Western military alliance to end its eastward expansion and demanded written guarantees in return.
For its part, the United States accuses Russia of a major troop build-up on its side of the Ukrainian border, amid concerns of a possible planned invasion. Moscow has rejected the claims and accuses Ukraine of having moved more than 120,000 troops to the line along the pro-Russian separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
Putin and Biden had their first summit in Geneva in June, where they agreed to launch new talks on a nuclear disarmament initiative.
