Prosecutors in the ‘Vault’ case have asked the court to issue detention orders to defendants Sasho Mijalkov and Nebojsha Stajkovikj until the ruling becomes final.
“Considering the 8-year prison term and the fact that Sasho Mijalkov is an extremely powerful person, as well as the non-finality of the ruling in the ‘Target-Fortress’ case, we seek a detention order in this case due to a flight risk,” said prosecutor Trajche Pelivanov and demanded a termination of the detention order in the “Target-Fortress” case.
The defense lawyers expressed their assurance their clients would be acquitted by the Appellate Court. Lawyer Ljupcho Shvrgovski said there the defendants posed no flight risk and added that the request for a detention order was baseless.
Earlier today, former director of the Administration for Security and Counterintelligence (UBK) Sasho Mijalkov was sentenced to 8 years in prison for abuse of office in the case dubbed “Vault”. Goran Grujevski, former chief of the UBK’s Fifth Department, who is currently a fugitive of justice, was given a 15-year prison term, while former Assistant Minister of Interior Nebojsha Stajkovikj was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. In addition, former Mijalkov’s Office chief Toni Jakimovski received a 5-year prison term for aiding and abetting the crime.
