Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, commenting on VMRO-DPMNE’s resolution on the country’s EU integration path, said Wednesday his party, DUI, holds the position that this process should start from zero, based on consent by all political parties instead of imposed by one party.
“I’m afraid that with such a resolution we can move from a state to an ethnic position,” Osmani said.
Despite the pressure from the opposition, he pointed out, we didn’t slip into a negative discourse with Bulgaria, and to the entire world, we got recognition that we are right.
“We reached an ethnic consensus. The country has never been as unanimous. The biggest mistake we can make now, is to have this state position that has credibility to the world, turned into an ethnic one again,” Osmani told Slobodna TV’s Morning Briefing show.
He notes that if due to some political, party ambitions, this state consensus that has been reached turns into an ethnic issue again, it would be the greatest damage that can be done.
“If a resolution is to be passed, it should be a product of all instead of imposed by a political party. DUI holds the position that this process should start from zero, based on consent by all political parties instead of imposed by one party. As I said, I’m afraid that with such a resolution we can move from a state to an ethnic position,” said Osmani.
