Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said on Friday that there’s no reason to postpone the census, stressing that the process will be conducted in line with protective protocols. Headcount results, he added, are crucial for the future of North Macedonia’s economy.
“I don’t see any reason to postpone the process. The headcount will be conducted in line with protective protocols, designed when North Macedonia registered 1,800 new cases daily,” Zaev told reporters following a visit to a kindergarten in Karposh municipality.
The survey approach, he added, is clearly defined and entails respect for protective protocols.
“Some countries can probably postpone the census process because they have recently-collected data, but we haven’t conducted a headcount in nearly 20 years. Lack of information leads to injustice and inequality, and keeps institutions at local and central level in the dark. The census of residents must be conducted April 1-21. The diaspora headcount has already started. There’s no turning back, we all have to take responsibility and take part in this statistical operation, crucial for development of economic measures and North Macedonia’s future,” PM Zaev stressed.
