Justice, equality and freedom are one of the first ones to fall victim to political abuse and corruption, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev says in a Facebook post to mark International Anti-Corruption Day.
“That is why the government, by applying European standards to address corruption, has been engaged in a fight through a strengthened and obligatory transparency, protection of press freedom, institutional support to a strong and independent anti-corruption commission and zero tolerance for wrongdoings,” he said.
We, the PM added, have been strengthening the institutions, decreasing discretion rights and the power of politicians and office holders.
Zaev recalled that the government in its anti-corruption fight has named Ljupco Nikolovski as Deputy PM in charge of combating corruption and crime.
“No one should be above the law, everyone should be demonstrating integrity. Every day, we are implementing European standards at home to make North Macedonia a country where rule of law is applied. To that end, each and every one of us have to play their role to have to eradicate corruption,” Zaev wrote on Facebook.
