In recent weeks, we are literally witnessing an explosion of coronavirus cases in the country and also in the region and across Europe. Since hospital capacities are being filled to capacity quickly, we’ve activated our plan to secure additional capacities, Health Minister Venko Filipche said Friday.
The whole building of the clinic for internal medicine will be adapted into a COVID center to treat patients, he told a news conference.
At the moment, Filipche said, the Clinic for Infectious Diseases and the modular hospital next to it are fully filled. Now, the Center for Respiratory Diseases is admitting patients.
The plan, which has been activated, involves adapting the clinics for dermatology and neurology as well as the clinics for gastroenterology, rheumatology and nephrology that are part of the complex of clinics in Skopje. “The clinics for otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology are also being considered,” said Filipche.
The Minister insisted that it wouldn’t disrupt the normal functioning of these clinics to treat other patients.
“Doctors and nurses are ready. Additional 150 beds will be provided and another almost 100 in the clinics for otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology,” concluded Filipche.
