Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov will submit Thursday to the Bulgarian Parliament the French proposal to lift Bulgaria’s veto on North Macedonia’s start of membership talks with the EU, news agency MIA informs.
Petkov himself shared this with his closest associates, according to reports in Bulgarian media. Prime Minister Petkov said he had “detailed knowledge of the sequence of what will happen: it will be officially sent to all EU member states on Thursday, and I will personally submit it to Parliament.”
Pointing out that he had the full support of Emanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz, he said: “We will accept it and then move forward.”
On Wednesday, at the very start of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers meeting, Petkov read his request, which was accepted, “that the proposal of the French presidency be immediately sent to the Parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee.”
